Our goal is to provide a strong educational foundation for children and to prepare them for kindergarten. We accomplish this by providing a caring environment where children learn through the joy and adventure of hands-on play. These stimulating experiences offer children the opportunity to explore their environment and practice skills within a classroom setting shared with their peers. In a loving Christian atmosphere, we guide children to reach their full potential to become self-reliant, confident, respectful, responsible, and problem solvers. We are sensitive to developing each unique child, and we seek to instill a lifelong, inquisitive, enthusiastic learner.

Our daily program offers a balance of self-directed learning and teacher planned experiences. Activities take place in large group, small group, and individually. There is a pacing of active and inactive and noisy and quiet activities. The curriculum includes many opportunities to participate in a wide variety of interests. We recognize the importance of parent-teacher communication and so, provide many opportunities for teachers to share with parents and parents to share with teachers.

Centers

Students pick a center they would like to work in with a friend or independently. Students may explore the different centers as they wish. New themed activities are added to each center each week. Skills and concepts students are learning during centers are literacy, math, science, art, fine motor, and social skills.

Music and Movement

Music and Movement is filled with songs, rhymes, instruments, and use of gross motor skills. Through music we build and learn various language skills, phonemic awareness, math concepts, music, social skills, and gross motor skills

Morning Circle Time

We start with the message of the day to build literacy skills. Then we read a book related to our weekly theme. Students share, join in, make meaning, and make connections to build reading comprehension, book knowledge, and phonemic awareness. Our focus is on social skills, character building, and independent living skills. Students will enjoy music, drama, games and fun activities that encourage social and emotional skills.

Large Gross Motor Play

Various gross motor activities are set up around the outside courtyard to practice and develop various gross motor skills. Jumping, running and playing games helps to develop the muscles while creating a strong core for balance. Students will have the opportunity to play with the large sensory tables for exploration.

Play-Based Learning

Children learn best through play. Thrive Day School specializes in play-based learning to encourage positive social interactions. This approach allows our students to explore, discover, negotiate, create meaning and solve problems, which are important foundations for developing social skills, vocabulary, literacy and numerical skills.

Thrive Day School ‘s skilled educators embed elements of teaching and learning within play experiences that introduce and reinforce educational, social and behavioral concepts as they engage in hand-on exploration. Using a play-based learning model encourages positive social interactions that produces an increase in vocabulary and meaningful expression. Our individualized approach to learning gives each child the skills necessary to learn and to grow. The low student –to-teacher ratio gives our educators the ability to work individually with our students to achieve their highest potential.
